7-Azoxy substituted-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones

Novel 1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones of the formula ##SPC1## Wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl-lower alkyl, hydroxylower alkyl, lower alkoxy-lower alkyl and di-lower alkylamino-lower alkyl; R.sub.2 signifies hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sub.3 signifies hydrogen or halogen; R.sub.4 signifies lower alkyl And the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, are disclosed together with processes for preparing these compounds and novel intermediates used in these processes. These 7-azoxy substituted-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones are useful as muscle relaxant, anti-convulsant and sedative agents.


We claim:
1. A compound of the formula ##SPC7##
wherein
R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, C.sub.3 to C.sub.7 cycloalkyl-lower alkyl, hydroxy-lower alkyl, lower alkoxy-lower alkyl and dilower alkylamino-lower alkyl;
R.sub.2 signifies hydrogen or lower alkyl;
R.sub.3 signifies hydrogen or halogen;
R.sub.4 signifies lower alkyl
or the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof.
2. The compound of claim 1 which is 1,3-dihydro-7-(N-methyl-N-oxyazo)-1-methoxymethyl-5-phenyl-2H-1,4-benzodia zepin-2-one.
3. The compound of claim 1 which is 1,3-dihydro-7-(N-lower alkyl-N-oxyazo)-1-lower alkoxy-lower alkyl-5-(orthohalophenyl)-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one.
