Butenoic and pyruvic acid derivatives

2-Hydroxy-butenoic acid derivatives of the general formula: ##STR1## are described. These compounds have antiphlogistic activity.






What we claim is:

1. A hydroxy-butenoic acid compound of the general formula: ##STR51## wherein R.sup.1 is 4-biphenylyl, 4-cyclohexylphenyl, 3-phenoxyphenyl, 4'-fluoro-4-biphenylyl, 2-fluoro-4-biphenylyl, 3-benzoylphenyl or 6-methoxynaphthyl, and R.sup.2 is a lower alkyl group.
